Originally founded in 1946 as Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital and inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1950, the institution is now part of the Max Healthcare group. Spread across 55 specialty departments with 11 operation theatres, 75 critical care beds, 600+ full-time doctors, and 350+ consultants, the hospital offers comprehensive care across oncology, cardiology, neurosciences, orthopaedics, transplant sciences, and gastroenterology. Its 10,000 sq. ft imaging centre features a 3 Tesla MRI with MR-guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery and a 64-slice PET CT scanner with cardiac capability. Nanavati Max was the first hospital in Mumbai to deploy the Elekta digital linear accelerator for radiation oncology (2007), and the first in India to offer Apomorphine Pen & Pump treatment for Parkinson's disease in collaboration with King's College London (2018).
