AMRI Hospitals — Advanced Medicare & Research Institute — was founded in Kolkata in 1996 by the Emami Group and Shrachi Group in partnership with the Government of West Bengal, making it a pioneer of organised private healthcare in Eastern India. Operating across three Kolkata campuses (Dhakuria flagship, Salt Lake, and Mukundapur), a unit in Bhubaneswar (Odisha), and a health centre in Dhaka dedicated to Bangladeshi patients, the group grew to 1,200 beds, 680 doctors, and 5,000+ healthcare professionals handling 350,000+ patients and 15,000+ surgeries annually across 29+ specialties. In September 2023, Manipal Hospitals acquired an 84% stake for ₹2,400 crores — one of the largest private healthcare acquisitions in Eastern India — and the group was rebranded under the Manipal banner on 15 May 2024. NABH- and NABL-accredited and GreenOT certified, the Kolkata campuses deliver cardiac sciences, oncology, neurosciences, organ transplantation, orthopaedics and spine care, IVF, nephrology, gastroenterology, and trauma care, with dedicated international patient services coordinated through the Manipal Global network.
