American Hospital Dubai, founded in 1996 by the Mohammed & Obaid Al Mulla Group, was the first hospital in the Middle East to receive Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, in May 2000, and has renewed it multiple times since. A roughly 250-bed acute care hospital in Oud Metha with around 280 physicians across more than 30 specialties, it became the first healthcare organisation in the Middle East to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network in June 2016. The hospital's Comprehensive Cancer Center, Heart Center, and Total Joint Replacement Center anchor its clinical reputation, supported by a robotic surgery programme built around a 4th-generation da Vinci system — the first of its kind in Dubai. Its laboratory was also the first private lab in the Middle East to earn College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation, in 2001.
